Manage media (pictures, files, links)

Preferences

All files that you use in Genney should be in a shared folder. By default, that folder is in the Genney folder.

If you move your research to Genney, you can copy your files manually to that folder, or you can change the path to the folder where you have your files under preferences > organization > storage > media. The path to the media folder is linked to each individual register, unlike the other paths.

Under preferences > media, you can choose whether Genney should look for files in subdirectories, and you can also change the limit for the size of files to be allowed.

Media

Media (short for multimedia) is in Genney name for files and links that can be linked to individuals, families, events, sources, citations and locations. All connections except for locations are gedcom standard and are also managed by other advanced genealogy programs.

Media is an object that contains a title and description and a path to the file, or a link to a URL, and is therefore not the same as a file.

Under the manage menu > media, there is a media list with all media added to the current register.

Edit

When you add an image, for a person, you have three different options.

  • Browse, where you create media from a file that you get from your hard disk.
  • Media list, where you select an existing media from the media list.
  • Web address, where you create media with a URL.

In the image example below, which is from the media tab in the biography, you also get the choice of whether it is a person or family you should add media for.

When adding a new media you can specify whether you want it to be included in printing and how large it should be. If you add an image for a person, you can also specify whether it should be displayed as a presentation image/portrait.
