Groups in Genney are a way to link people together under a common label. The advantage of grouping people is that you can easily search for or color individuals in a group. If you delete a group, you only delete the connection between the person and the group - no individual data is changed.
There are three different ways in which a group can be created:
- Create an empty group. Under the manage menu > groups you can create and edit different groups.
- Create a group with persons from a individual list. Under individual lists there is a menu where you can choose to link a person list to a specific group.
- Autogenerated groups. Groups automatically created by Genney, e.g. at gedcom import or when you delete a family.
In the biography there is a tab called groups and which shows all groups created in the family register. There you can check which groups you want a person to belong to.
To view all persons connected to a group, select individual lists under the main menu and hold down the mouse until a submenu appears and selects groups. The list then shows all persons who are part of the group. In the menu below the list, you can export the group to Excel, print all persons in the group or color the group's persons.
Another way to view persons from a group is to search for the group in the detailed search window under main menu > search > groups. There you can also use groups as a basis for searching, for example to show only women in a certain group.
