Preferences - date

Here you specify how you want the date to be presented. The default is your local date format.

The date format you specify also determines how you specify the date on entry. If you use a format when entering a date that does not match the format you selected the date will be interpreted as free text.

  1. Enter the date format you want to use in the list, or specify whether you want to use the standard gedcom format. Today's date is shown in bold with your chosen format.
  2. Specify whether you want the date to use leading zeros for the year.
  3. Specify if you want to use gedcom default date format instead of any of the ones in the list.

You can always use the GEDCOM date format when entering dates. The syntax is: d mmm yyyy with english months such as 13 oct 1789.
