Make a gedcom file
To make a gedcom file of active family register
- Use the above command. The Export gedcom window opens.
-
There are seven tabs where you can change what is to be exported:
- Selection where you decide which persons should be included in the export.
You can choose All persons, persons from your last search
or a selection from a new search using the
search tool.
You can also choose to exclude facts and persons if
they are private or put a time limit. Citations can be
excluded for the credibility and you can choose not to export your to-do tasks.
- Individual data where you can specify the content.
Under Tasks, select what to include by checking the tree structure
and Facts where you select in the list which fact types to include.
- Family data, see individual data.
- Genney where you select the data that is specific
to Genney and that is not gedcom standard (together with export type Genney).
- Sources where you select the source data to be included by checking the tree structure.
- Submitter contains information about the person who created the gedcom file.
You can choose existing information in the drop-down menu or fill in new information
Note that the name and address of the two lines is necessary for some genealogy programs to accept the file.
- Export type where you choose Type.
If you choose Genney you get everything in your register
when you import the file into Genney while gedcom 5.5 only
export the data that is supported by the gedcom standard.
You can also choose Character set.
The default character set for the gedcom is ansel
but most modern software supports utf-8 (recommended).
