General search
Open search window with the above command.
The window contains five tabs that allow you to search your register from different starting points:
- Text, where you are looking for the presence of free text
in any of the areas that you select under the search box.
Above the search box is a help text on how to use the search phrase in your search.
- Date, where you can search for people that are changed
between the date you specify, or people who have information that
is changed between specified dates.
If you choose to search people based on information linked to them,
also select the types of data you want to search by selecting them below the search boxes.
- Occurrence, where you are looking for the number of information
that you enter in the tree during the search criteria.
You can choose to search if a task is: missing, more than,
less than or if there is an exact number.
- Kinship, where you are looking for people who are related
or part of a family where a person is related to the selected
person from the pulldown menu. You can choose between:
ancestors, descendants, related (ancestors and descendants),
ancestors pedigree collapse, descendants pedigree collapse or cousins to the selected person.
For each type of relationship you choose, you can make further selections in the box below.
- Groups, where you include people from the groups you choose to tick.
You can make further selections for your search by checking
the gender persons should have and if the search result should:
- Be added to your last search results.
- Find people who do NOT meet the search criteria.
- Search the last result.
The search you perform only applies to the tab you have selected.
Example 1, search for people who have died of "stroke":
- Select the Text tab.
- Click the box of Individual data, if it is checked, to clear all areas.
- Expand facts and then expand death.
- Check the box cause for death.
- In the search box, type in your search phrase "stroke".
- Click the search button and the result is displayed as a list in the left side of the program.
Example 2, search for people who have been a "painter":
- Select the Text tab.
- Click the box of Individual data, if it is checked, to clear all areas.
- Expand facts and check occupation.
- In the search box, type in your search phrase "painter".
- Click the search button and the result is displayed as a list in the left side of the program.
Example 3, search for people who have had more occupations than 2:
- Select the Occurrence tab.
- Click the box of Individual data, if it is checked, to clear all areas.
- Expand facts and check occupation.
- Select search criteria "are more than" and select number 2.
- Click the search button and the result is displayed as a list in the left side of the program.
